Adding Text To Speech for Presenters
You can add text-to-speech (TTS) functionality to Wordly for presenters for better accessibility during multilingual meetings. This lets presenters hear translations of other speakers’ languages without hearing their own.
You might want to do this if:
- You’re using Wordly in 1:1 conversations. You’ll want to see and hear text in your language and the person you’re speaking with wants to see and hear in their language without having Wordly repeat what each person is saying to themselves.
- You have a meeting with speakers in multiple languages. Example: You speak English, but another presenter is speaking Japanese. You don’t need Wordly to translate your speech, but you need Wordly to translate the Japanese speech.
Prerequisites
- Speakers must all join a session as presenters.
Warning
Speakers should have headphones to avoid audio feedback.
To add text to speech
- From the Wordly dashboard, select Sessions from the left-side menu.
- Select the session that you want to join as a presenter and expand Meeting Shortcuts.
- Click the URL to join the session. You can send the URL to other speakers by emailing them the link.
- Click Join.
- Click the speaker icon to activate TTS. Each speaker must do this.
- A warning message displays. Make sure you have headphones plugged in and click Turn on Audio.
Note
There’ll be a delay before TTS begins after a person speaks. What you experience is the expected behaviour when using text-to-speech. When the captions are generated, they form word blocks (which you see represented as speech bubbles). These word blocks are progressive and frequently update while they are being generated as more context is received. They must be completed before the text-to-speech can be read. To reduce the size of the word blocks and the appearance of any delays, we recommend:
- Speaking at a natural pace.
- Taking occasional pauses.
